From the Desk of Dr. Barker

I am so thankful to be the Head of School at Ambassador High and to share our State of the School for 2020. AHS has experienced so much success with students this year and over the last seven years. We believe Ambassador High is a Christian mission to students in the Los Angeles area. I am very proud to report our school continues to grow closer to our goal of being one of the highest achieving high schools in California. Enrollment for next year is strong with 97% of students returning and a growing freshman class.

COVID-19 and PLAN FOR 2020-2025
In July, we received the news from Governor Newsom that Los Angeles County schools will not be able to hold in-person classes until the County is off of the state’s COVID-19 watchlist for at least 14 days. There are only a few counties in California that are able to currently reopen, but with strict protocols & guidelines.

Our hearts go out to all of you as we will once again need to prepare for a fully on-line school. God has blessed us with the ability to do so successfully, and we are confident that we can provide rigorous classes and the educational support that your students need.  Classes will be meeting on Zoom at the regular scheduled time based on our bell schedule.  Teachers will be in their new classrooms meeting with students on Zoom and presenting lessons and holding discussions. The office will be open daily from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and students are required to attend every online class session and chapel.

We also want you to know that our administration & staff have been working hard to prepare the school to meet all the COVID-19 protocols of the state that are necessary for our eventual re-opening. Just a year ago we were at the LA Galaxy Soccer Center making do with our limited classrooms & office space. Only God could have orchestrated the events of this past year, bringing us to our new location at just the right time.

STUDENT SUCCESS AND TRANSFORMED FUTURES
By serving students with a college preparatory education that is second-to-none, AHSs’ reputation continues to grow in our community. Our students strive each day to become high-achieving students and be well prepared for success in college. Over the last seven years we've had over 85 students graduate with at least one year of transfer credit and 99% attending 4-year or 2-year universities. AHS alumni are in over 40 universities in the U.S. and the world. Our current class of 2020 is going to the UC’s, public colleges and private universities in the United States and traveling to South Korea and Austria for new adventures.

BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS
This year has been a pivotal year because we were able to sign a five year lease with the Southern California Regional Occupational Center. This allows us to occupy 8,500 square feet of classroom space on a beautiful 10 acre campus. Teachers gain larger classrooms and AHS will have signage on Crenshaw boulevard. The new AHS campus will have new classrooms, superior office space and cafeteria space for potential growth of AHS. Classrooms are large enough to practice social distancing with 25 students per room.

SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL MENTORING
As a Christian high school we have a spiritual and academic focus for our students. We are dedicated to helping students grow spiritually through Chapel every week, prayer before every class, and holding four years of Bible classes. We have found that student’s spiritual development has come through mentoring by our Christian faculty and staff. Our talented faculty help students desire and build a relationship with Jesus in a real and sustainable way.

STRONG COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PREPARATION
Academically, AHS has offered rigorous college preparatory courses and college transfer credit through LA Harbor College and now from Colorado Christian University. Our students are succeeding academically in both regular and college settings. On average, students improve by over 75 points every year on their PSAT or SAT. The benefit of strong SAT scores allows students at AHS to choose the college, university or program of their choice.

NEW ELECTIVE PROGRAM WITH THEATRE, COMP SCI, ENGINEERING AND ATHLETICS
As I announced in March we will offer a new dynamic elective program to all students to find their purpose, students need a program to experiment with multiple possible careers, from art & humanities, to science, research and computer science. This program will enable hundreds of students to realize their new identity in Christ in high demand career fields before entering college. Ambassador High also has a new Dual Credit program to enable students to earn 60 college credits from Colorado Christian University for AP and elective courses taught by AHS faculty. Athletics will be training at local facilities which could include Wilson Park, Shoot 360 or a local gym. New courses include Principles of Engineering, Python Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Research Seminar, Philosophical Inquiry, Worldview Philosophy, Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Theatre Production, and Studio Art 2-D and 3-D.

FINANCIAL STRENGTH
We are proud to report that our school has always approved a positive budget each year from the day we opened our doors. We continue to maintain a positive, fiscally conservative budget. Our Board of Trustees has been serving the school for over 10 years with monthly meetings to review budgets, policies, revenues and expenditures. Their commitment each year is to approve a positive budget with a projected reserve of 5% in case of emergencies. The school conducts an external audit every other year to examine all expenditures and deposits.

FAMILY ATMOSPHERE
Ambassador High is a family of students, faculty, staff and parents all working together to offer a superior college preparatory education. I am excited for the future of our school and for what God is going to do at our new site and in our new schedule. I can only thank the faculty, Board of Trustees and parents for supporting God's vision for the school. This school was never my vision and that it was always God's vision for the students of the South Bay. In humility and asking for God’s grace in everything, I am honored to be your Head of School and thank you for your love for children and Christian education.
